Easily the best thing they've put out since AWITC

Sick.
Reminded me of 'Ares' a bit.

You like every single British band of the period except the one with a black singer?
Maybe you should change your username to BurberryInBondi.

jacegalvin

jacegalvin said on the 11th Jul, 2012

Or is it because the lead singer is gay?

i like... the heavy..?

i do like bloc party, but they're not a band i'm familiar with outside of their singles. i have been meaning to get their stuff.

In my opinion, Silent Alarm was the best album of 2005.

Loved Silent Alarm, I didn't think much at all of the last album though.
But this, I like very much.

just saw that comment and went through the 2005 albums in my music library. and wow that was one incredible year of music. Sufjan's Illinois, Kanye's Late Rego, Z by MMJ, Sigur Ros with Takk, The National's Alligator amongst countless others. but yeah Silent Alarm would most certainly be right up there for me as well.

"Day Four" - another new song from the album.
It starts out a bit bland but builds up at the end. Sounds a bit like tracks off Silent Alarm like So Here We Are, Plans and Compliments.

Kind of sad (as an Australian fan) that these guys will play bigger venues in Sydney and Melbourne than they will in New York.

oldgregg

has anyone listened to the leaks of four yet? i've loved what i've heard so far, and i've read nothing but good things.

sarcasm_mister

sarcasm_mister said on the 9th Aug, 2012

but isn't that very common? i've lost count of how many bands i've seen who have said their sydney show is one of the biggest they've ever done.

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 9th Aug, 2012

I know.

Just lamenting on that fact. It's also a shame that The Hordern isn't a very good venue.

When I saw Bloc Party in New York in 2005 at the Roseland Ballroom (capacity of about 3,200), it was the biggest headline show they'd ever played.

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 9th Aug, 2012

Do you think they'd play the Hordern on their next tour? I'd love to have them pack out the Enmore.

Yeah, I've got it. Only one listen so far, but I like the move towards more rock-based arrangements. Not that I didn't love Intimacy, I just think there's a really strong energy on it.

oldgregg

is intimacy the lesser of their albums?

we saw Gomez there, it's a fantastic venue.

I'd be surprised if they played somewhere smaller than the Hordern.

I guess it depends how successful their new album is.

They are very popular here though.

I can see them advertising a show at the Enmore, selling it out in 10 minutes and then upgrading to the Hordern and Braveheart81 going into a Hulkrage on the forum.

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 9th Aug, 2012

A lot of people think so, gregg. I love it, personally. The first two albums are five-star for me, Intimacy is probably about a 4.5

They could be really nice and do AM and do the Hordern then a nice lil enmore show

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 9th Aug, 2012

I would go 5, 4, 3.5.

AWITC was good but it didn't have the cover to cover brilliance of Silent Alarm. There were some weaker songs on it. A few tracks were brilliant though.

I thought Intimacy was hit and miss.

berlinchair101

berlinchair101 said on the 9th Aug, 2012

I thought it was pretty balls. Especially compared to the the magnificent quality of their first two records.

sarcasm_mister

sarcasm_mister said on the 9th Aug, 2012

i really enjoy seeing bands who are still categorised as indie/alternative playing massive venues in Sydney. shows the city has good taste in music and notches up the snobbery an extra level.

fucking killer setlist so far! loving it.

gumbuoy

gumbuoy said on the 9th Aug, 2012

I would say that it completely destroys the very concept of "indie" or "alternative" being a label you can apply to a band.

sarcasm_mister

Song For Clay into Banquet is the tits. Both times I've seen them live I've known it was coming and started losing my shit before the riff for Banquet kicks in, prompting a lot of strange looks from surrounding folk.

Honestly don't think there is a bad track on Four. Might even be on par WITC, just maybe. Will need a few more listens.

And shame on you Gregg for taking so long to discover them.

With all the albums and tours by The Wombats and Kaiser Chiefs how was oldgregg ever going to find time for Bloc Party?

gumbuoy

gumbuoy said on the 9th Aug, 2012

Not enough hot young women in the band...

oldgregg

oldgregg said on the 9th Aug, 2012

I've always liked bloc party, I just never got around to buying their albums and giving them mass amounts of my attention, but I always lived their singles... laziness on my behalf.

also a former friend tried to get me into them at the time he was slipping into hard drugs, so I was off put for a while.

he does a lot of heroin these day.

was probably also busy fapping over the arctic monkeys.
