just got back from this.

i walked in a couple of minutes into the movie thanks to being held back at work but i think i just missed some of the Mother Love Bone stuff. i felt that they could've handled the early years of band a little better. the whole transition from being no names to being chart toppers was a bit messy. but once it got into the Vs/Vitalogy era it fell together nicely. it captured the personalities of each member very well (aside from maybe Matt Cameron) and highlighted the focal points in the bands career perfectly without seeming too much like a plain doco on the band. there were some genuinely light hearted funny moments (none better than the "drummers" story) but the few minutes they spent on the Roskilde disaster made for some difficult viewing. also loved it how they highlighted the bands habit of playing a totally different set each night and how its kept them from becoming jaded and just going through the motions each night.

i guess there was no way i was ever going to dislike this. i really haven't hated anything the band has ever done. they are my favourite band for a variety of sad soppy reasons and will probably remain so.

so yeah highly recommend for fans (when it comes out on dvd). and casual listeners won't mind it either as they focus on the first 3 albums for a majority of the film. heck soundgarden fans might get a kick out of it as well with the amount of Chris Cornell they had in it!

I am so pumped after seeing this, almost as though I've just seen them live. I'm sure I'll be smiling in my sleep tonight.

we went gold class too, my first time. beers, pizza, nachos and pearl jam with the man I love... could the night have been any better? I think not.

yeah i felt top of the world walking out of the theatre.

it felt as though the band has spent the last 20yrs in an epic battle with itself between being a mainstream mega rock band and an alternative group. what they created in their early days was undoubtedly a very mainstream/commercial brand of music but without the intention of becoming such a band. ever since then they've been trying fend off those labels without ever separating themselves from that part of their career.

Wholeheartedly enjoyed the film also. While the session was sold out, the place was pin-drop silent (apart from the handful of gags) as fans soaked up everything put up on the screen.

I found a lot of the early days black & white handy cam stuff didn't translate that well to the massive cinema screen; expect those parts will look much better on my TV when the DVD is out next month.

I don't know if I can handle the thought of having to wait for the DVD to be released. it's all just too much!

I was just perusing the vast range of PJ stuff on iTunes, and discovered a little gem called 'rockabye lullaby'. it's a children's version of a delectable selection of their music. I want to buy it. fuck the kids, I'll listen to it myself to go nighty-night.

getting the dvd with bonus material on 10c, best part for me was when stone played daughter in the back of the tour van and ed put some lyrics to it. great doco.

Deluxe DVD - disc 1: standard DVD, disc 2: "The Kids are Twenty" version of the film, and bonus footage, disc 3: "The Fans are Alright" over 80 mins of extras focusing on the fans and their relationship with the band $US59.99
Deluxe Bluray - same as deluxe DVD $US69.99

just streaming the soundtrack now and it's quite good. but it does feel like a very random compilation of tracks thrown together. a few demos, handful of live recordings from their early days and a few too many from more recent tours. and for no good reason Nothing As It Seems in both demo form and live.
