FL interview Metallica 18 November, 2010

FL went backstage at a Metallica gig this week to get up close and personal with Lars Ulrich. Over the course of 15 very funny minutes he talked about everything from ‘Some Kind Of Monster’ to why he is unashamedly the world’s biggest U2 fan.

Never really understood the whole Lars hate thing.

Obviously the whole suing of the fans thing, but he genuinely seems like a pretty nice guy.

I guess its because he's actually a pretty average drummer, especially when compared to the musical talents of his band mates.

Couple that with the fact that he is one of the highest earning and most successful musicians of all time and you have your answer.

That's why when you're not a world beating drummer, you should be the one starting the band. Lars and Larry Mullen Jr... any others like that?

It's not that. I think he comes across as smugly patronising at times towards fans. And maybe that's inadvertent. But it rankles.

Don't pat me on the head and tell me I'm awesome just because I bought a few of your albums. Fucker.

his quality is his enthusiasm and honesty, even if this forthrightedness rankles some. he really is like a kid with a pocketful of coins in a lolly shop.

he obviously gets off on what they do in life and whether you like it or not, his passion is admirable. he's pretty articulate for an old metal kid too let's face it

i share danish blood with him and that also gets a tick from me :)

No, Actually I'm completely indifferent on this one. Not a Metallica fan at all, in fact I was given a set of GA tix to the sydney show in September and gave them away for free because I'm not into them.

I have no issue with Lars, I haven't read/seen enough interviews to have an opinion on his arrogance.

I just thought that it was probably jealousy that was causing so much Lars hate, as soon as musicians start making mega dollars people start having issues with them. ( especially other musicians!)
