Red Alert! Factory Girls is by far one of the best new releases by any Australian band in 2006 and I would urge everyone to get down to Big Star and buy a copy. If you’re not converted on the strength of the first single Curiousity you well and truly should be.
Twelve classic songs packed full of melody, groove and a shit load of harmony is what awaits anyone raring to give this one a go. The themes running loose in the background, centre on a timeless echo of pop and art and low life, style and danger, sleaze and power, filth and beauty, lovers and sinners and whole lot more.
Factory Girls is perfectly constructed with drums and guitar working together smashingly giving the space to bounce off each other yet keeping well clear of each other. The album spans thirty-eight minutes with each ditty clocking in at roughly three and a half minutes each making you want to leap out of the chair and dance. Stock up on the Mars Bars as you’ll need it as the album kicks off with _Tonight (There’s A Party Goin’ Down), _which is a real rush of energy and is undoubtedly the unofficial manifesto for Dallas Crane.
Curiousity is a stunner delving deeper in to the forbidden fruits of desire (just take a look at the film clip, which is to saucy for TV) and the sleaze runs deep in _Lovers And Sinners _as well as Two Can Play This Game. Other highlights include Black Angels, Teenage Superpot and Matter Of Time. Go the Crane!
