Remember Aqualung'sMemory Man

Upon hearing the first track of Aqualung’s second major album Memory Man, I was convinced Matt Hales’ signature sound and poetic lyrics were as alive as ever. I was hooked. The Indie/piano rock singer pumps out hit song after song, as fans (myself included) eat up his real lyrics and liberating sound.

Opening tracks Cinderella and Pressure Suit were the first singles off the album to hit the UK and United States after the album release in March 2007. Cinderella kicks off the album with an eerie lone piano and switches back and forth with the shrill electric guitar. Aqualung’s eeriness, that was less prevalent in his earlier music, echoes throughout the album, making Cinderella a telling track of what’s to come. Pressure Suit follows with poetic and comforting lyrics and a pulsing piano behind.

The more upbeat Vapour Trail, Outside and Rolls So Deep_ will keep you nodding your head, singing along and ready to do something daring. The empowering guitar and drums take precedent in these songs. On the other hand, Black Hole and the especially passionate Broken Bones feature an irresistible piano and emotional lyrics, showcasing Matt Hales’ impressive raw talent.

Aqualung’s latest album Memory Man combines angelic piano melodies, honest lyrics and the soothing voice of Matt Hales. What could be better on a mellow afternoon?
