Cut Copy - Hearts on Fire
Thu 24th May, 2007 in Music Reviews
The time appears just about right for Cut Copy ’s return. Although usurped by the likes of The Presets and Van She as figureheads of Australia’s somewhat, um, colourful indie-electro movement, few bands of similar ilk ooze class like the much-loved Cutters.
Hearts On Fire is the first taste from the group since their globe-pleasing Bright Like Neon Love album. Basically it’s classic Cut Copy in the sense that it’s no more, no less than previous efforts. The French house aspect is still prominent – those Daft Punk comparisons won’t be leaving them in a hurry – but it is still very, very good. Dan Whitford still has that distant, resigned vocal thing going on, and repetition is still their forte, but then why shouldn’t it be? Cut Copy even pull in the most dreaded of – œ80s throwbacks, the sleazy sax (C+C Music Factory is the gag doing the rounds), and still sound like…Cut Copy!
Dancefloors, you’ve been warned.
