Snow Patrol - Run
Fri 16th Jul, 2004 in Music Reviews
From the introductory chord I knew I’d be overwhelmed by the new single from Snow Patrol, Run. With close parallels to The Cure, Mogwai and Coldplay, Snow Patrol delivers what is an amazing mix of heart-warming lyrics, melodious guitar and smooth-smiling grooves.
It’s become compulsive. I’ve pressed play/repeat and now can’t bring myself to change the CD. And it’s just a single! People talk about getting sick of commercial radio stations over playing songs. Not the case here. I’m going to have to consult my doctor, the hairs on the back of my neck won’t stop sticking up. The shivers down my spine won’t go away. My head is uncontrollably moving backwards and forwards, side-to-side and I can’t stop thinking of a myriad of happy times from previous relationships, divine inspiring moments and unforgettable life experiences.
The guitar blows me away. The lyrics are beautiful. This is something special. It’s epic. It’s uplifting. It’s a perfect mixture of everything important in an anthem. Snow Patrol have struck gold and Gary Lightbody is leading the band triumphantly.
Buy this single. Purchase this album. See Snow Patrol play live.
I’ll be there at Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay, right down the front when Snow Patrol are set to blow Australia away. It will be an inexplicable mixture of emotion and jubilation as the band takes us on a journey from high to low and right back up again. Light up, light up and enjoy.
