The New Vague - Selftitled EP
Wed 14th Feb, 2007 in Music Reviews
There’s nothing vague about Adelaide’s indie pop rock sensations The New Vague. Adelaide is without a shadow of a doubt going through a resurgence with plenty of quality acts strutting their stuff on the live scene and releasing some kick arse tunes to boot… you may as well add The New Vague to that list.
Deceased Romance is a top notch follow up to their self titled EP showing a band that is on the up and are well in control of their craft. The New Vague has defined their own sound by capturing electric emotion by throwing melodic guitar riffs and catchy melodies in to the mix.
There is a nod to the likes of Interpol, Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes and The Kaiser Chiefs. If I hadn’t told you that these likeable lads were from Adelaide you would assume they’re another buzz band to be talked up in NME (and deservedly so if that was the case).
There is a smorgasbord of hits to consume but the most striking for my liking is the acoustic charged All Your Pretty Songs. There is a touch of Richard Ashcroft when it comes to the vocals and the lush strings that are seamlessly woven in to the background adds that touch of class.
Holiday is right on the money and the lead single Luv Her To Death showcases the band at their finest. The video clip is a nice bonus but it’s not like you need any convincing to grab a copy of this one.
