Sender - Sender
Fri 9th Jul, 2004 in Music Reviews
Sender is a group that was born in Bendigo, Victoria, a town which had its name put on the music map by the likes of Silverchair and Magic Dirt.
With a sound very much along the same lines as the Deftones and at times even reminiscent of Sunk Loto, Sender have introduced themselves onto the scene carrying with them a huge promise of things to come.
The group has been together for about eight years and began as a group called Zenyth before changing their name to Sender. They are a quartet, in their early 20s and consist of: Bohdan Dower – guitar, vocals; James Addlem – guitar; Tom Mewett – drums; and Michael Fitt – bass. Their debut self-titled EP, Sender, is quite impressive holding explosive vocals from Bohdan, accompanied by soundly polished music.
You’re On Fire is the opening track on the EP and puts forth no hesitations in representing what these guys are made of. With a hard-belting chorus and verses filled with emotive lyrics such as, ‘This silent wake that kills, that feeds, that tells you how to be fair, and now they stare,’ this song is destined to be an opening track that will have a lasting and memorable effect on its listener.
All of the tracks on this rather promising debut EP are relatively heavy sounding while at the same time not being too overpowering to not warrant being played on commercial radio.
Overall, Sender appears to come with the whole package. The group has strengths in the musical, lyrical, and physical aspects which give them the potential to stay around and reach succeeding achievements in the future. They hold all the assets of a commercial band without being manufactured, and in my view this is definitely a good thing.
