Super Florence Jam

It’s not often that a young, unsigned rock band is seen on the cover of a North Shore newspaper in Sydney. Super Florence Jam however have already achieved this sort of fame and the unsigned Sydney band have been busily promoting their debut self titled EP. With heavy influences from the 70s sounds of bands such as Led Zeppelin it is no surprise to find the EP littered with various riffs and melodies that point to that era.
The opening track Lazy Shady Lady shows their influences straight away with the vocals of Krawczyk resembling Robert Plant whilst the guitar licks have their roots firmly in that classic rock sound. With the band obviously looking to recreate that 70s esque sound its interesting when songs like Everyone but you pop up on the EP. This song is almost like a 50s rock ‘n’ roll classic with a twist and really does make you take notice especially with its catchy chorus and vocals. The only problem with it is that at just under 2 minutes its a little too short for my liking.
Tracks such as We’re Finished and No Time never really get going although there is still some flashy guitar work and signs of promise. The EP does seem a bit of hit and miss, with some tracks being well executed whilst others just don’t have the same drive behind them. One track which is a certain hit for me is the final track off the EP Recital Blues which sees the band jamming and bouncing off each others riffs.
Overall the EP is a promising start for the young Sydney outfit however it just fails to deliver on too many tracks for me. For a band who only formed just over a year ago its still an impressive start and they’re definitley someone i’ll be looking to check out in the live circuit.
