Bugdust - Set To Snap

www.fasterlouder.com.au

The debut EP from this Melbourne four piece. I’ve been told that JT is Pugwall from the TV show Pugwall’s Summer, interesting. However this ain’t some stupid kiddie rock band. This is balls to the wall gutsy rock ‘n’ roll. Four tracks of great music.

The first track is the title track ‘Set To Snap’, a great little number that makes me all warm and fuzzy but in that ‘I’m in a hot, smokey pub and my mind is fuzzy from the beer’ kind of way. ‘Set To Snap’ seems to be talking about being angry, a theme which continues through the record, this is not a bad thing, in fact it makes for much more enjoyable listening.

‘Remote Control’ is the next track of the rank and it rocks just as hard with the pounding guitars that move to being almost melodic within the blink of an eye. The third track ‘Mike Tyson’ could be the weakest on the EP as it verges on almost rap/metal but quickly redeems itself by rocking hard, and that was a weight off my mind.

The fourth and final track is a classic cover of Motley Crue’s ‘Livewire’. But as opposed to the track being a rock band covering a rock band Bugdust stamp their own style on it adding a bit of scratching here and there and also stamping it with some lovely heavy back up vocals that truly make the song Bugdust’s own as opposed to just another cover.
