Fear Factory: The Best ofFear Factory
Sun 19th Nov, 2006 in Music Reviews
After almost 15 years Fear Factory finally has their own “Best Of” Album. Most hardcore fans would own all the albums that the songs on this compilation are from, but if you are a new fan this album is a excellent place to start. Fear Factory was one of the first bands to mix death metal with crazy intense industrial electronics and samples, and the aggressive style of Burton C Bell
(Vocals) as well as the guitar riffs of Dino Cazares wich have influenced most metal bands currently together.
Included is a range of songs released between 1992-2001, The first few songs are from the classic album Soul of a New Machine which hardcore fans call their most radical and heavy album and was released in 1992, also from the band’s album Obsolete which for many is classified as their greatest album are Edgecrusher” and Resurrection. It seems a bit strange that they included Cars witch is a Gary Numan cover, looks like they did this for a bit of fun.
Another nice touch to this album is the front insert. Once fully opened up you have a range of historic quotes from band members and some rare/limited photos that show the band over the last 15 years.
Unfortunately we will not hear anything on this from the Archetype or Transgression albums as they were released after the band had left Roadrunner so this may be a disappointment for new listeners. However this album still remains a must for new fans. Since all the hardcore fans would own the albums that the songs are taken from, they wont be rushing out to get this, but if you are a fan looking for some great Fear Factory songs then this albums is a must!
Listeners should be encouraged to investigate the band’s history as well has their latest effort Transgression for a new sound.
