Heavens - Patent Pending

The haunting lyrics of Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio have returned but this time under a different banner. Heavens  is a side project created by Skiba and fellow founding member Josiah Steinbrick.

The first offering from the duo, an 11 track LP titled Patent Pending delivers a typically haunting experience something which we’ve come to expect from Skiba over the years and many comparisons will be made between this project and the music of Alkaline Trio but don’t be fooled, Heavens steps away from the Punk sounds of the Trio and moves into a more rounded and less guitar driven sound.

The use of drum machines and even a string ensemble can be found rounding out in Heather.

The standout track for me is the more up tempo title track Patent Pending ,a good pop song which flows from start to finish.

Fans of Skiba won’t be dissapointed here and while it won’t go down as a classic Heavens does deliver a change of pace with enough hooks to keep you satisfied.

A worthy addition to the collection.
