Various Artists -Vodafone: Live At TheChapel

Vodafone: Live At The Chapel would have to be one of Australia’s most exclusive music events as tickets to these events are highly sought after. Only the cream of international and national touring acts are invited to play at “Chapel Off Chapel” which is an amazing 1800s bluestone building in Prahran, Melbourne. Each show has a small intimate audience of one hundred and fifty people with thousands more watching the streamed webcast from anywhere around the globe.

Chapel Series Four featured artists of the calibre of End Of Fashion, Ben Lee, The Dandy Warhols, The Cat Empire, Sarah Blasko, Pete Murray and Thirsty Merc to rattle off a few. Having said that and no disrespect to the artists involved but I would have to say this is a pretty bland live compilation. Two randomly picked tracks from the set of each artist on the night hardly gives a good impression about the show let alone the atmosphere and the actual buzz of being a part of the audience at that show.

Live recordings should be more than the tracks themselves as it’s the banter and the witty wisecracks putting a smart arse punter back in their box which are usually the most remembered parts of going to a show.

For me, the pick of the live tracks would have to be the Dandy Warhols All The Money Or The Simple Life Honey and Godless not forgetting End Fashion’s She’s Love and O Yeah. Other creditable mentions go to Sarah Blasko and Ben Lee on what rounds out a bland live compilation.
