In the tradition of Nirvana Unplugged comes a release by Seether, a band that has a lot of similarities to Nirvana (in the sound department at least). Following in the vein of that infamous MTV recorded Nirvana release, Seether’s One Cold Night is an intimate acoustic performance, with a DVD of the event to accompany the audio, captured in this release.
Shaun Morgan, the vocalist/guitarist of the band and principal songwriter, has put together an album with the rest of the boys in the band that is a compedium of their favourite tracks translated into the acoustic format.
A cynical marketing exercise you may say, but Seether translates very well into this mode with the bluesy roots of this style of music making a wonderful base for the gravely voice of Morgan to ride upon. Gasoline starts the CD off and is well suited to the acoustic touch, while some others, like Tied My Hands, just become a bit boring with the same treatment.
If you haven’t been a fan of the band before, but like the ‘Seattle sound’ and your music uncomplicated, this is similar enough to Nirvana, uncannily so in parts, to fill in that hole in the CD collection, and if Seether have been your idols for a while, this release will not disappoint.
