At The Drive In - ThisStation is NonOperational
Tue 29th Aug, 2006 in Music Reviews
As the five man band returned with a compilation release, with their best of the best, it made me remember what makes these guys so special and unique. The eleven years of fantastic music this Texan band has produced has been hand picked and placed carefully, to form a basket full of goodies for our ears to feast upon.
From ‘Fahrenheit’ to ‘Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk’ the release takes you through the history of At the Drive In and draws you into theirworld. Features from Relationship Of Command (re-released 2004), In Casino Out (2002) and Vaya (2002) show the later works of ATDI and one can’t help but notice the absence of any Acrobatic Tenement vibes, their first ever release (also available as a re-release).
The cool and calm vibes of ‘Napoleon Solo’ cruise through the middleof the compilation preparing your ears for what’s to snap you on your feet. The lively hit ‘One Armed Scissor’ creates an amazing transition of pace andmood, so if you’re not moving around to the danceable post hardcore rhythm that is At the Drive In, then clearly, you’ve invested funds into a style you’ll never comprehend or appreciate.
Due to the decision of an “indefinite hiatus” each member has turned their focus to individual projects. Upon making a closer observation, one can understand the playful pun with the title of this 2005 release, because it is the sad reality that At the Drive In will be a station that operates, no more.
It is just these guy’s style to go out with a bang, so keep your ears ready to hear more. Although their efforts are no longer combined, Cerdic, Jim, Omar, Paul and Tony are some of the most talented guys in the music industry. If you’d like to get a feel of their new projects check out Cerdic’s vocals in Mars Volta along with the musical stylings of Omar and Paul. As for Tony and Jim, they’re are currently together in their project Sparta.
The guys have already begun to make some noise and their loyal followers are spreading the word. We wish the guys all the best on their new projects, and truly hope they’ll return, even if it’s just one more time to ‘wow’ us all.
