Her Majesty’s Finest are a Melbourne four piece who came onto the indie/garage scene in 2002. Their debut live set captured the attention of over 400 music lovers that night. Not a bad start to any band career.
The Sgt. Speedway EP, written and arranged by the band, is a six pack of aural stimulation. The opening track, Let me Breath, has shades of catchiness written all over it. The feel of this song has “summer Sunday afternoons in the beer garden” written all over it. I can’t decide which is the catchiest part of this song – those damn fine guitar riffs or the hum along chorus! The guitar and bass line of this song reminds me of those 80’s masters of knowing how to write a good pop tune, The Stems, in parts.
The title track of this EP, Sgt. Speedway is filled with dynamics – there are those guitars again. Her Majesty’s Finest have been compared to various indie bands. Don’t yer is reminiscent of early You Am I. Her Majesty’s finest cite their influences from British rock/pop – bands such as Oasis, Suede and even hints on The Beatles. Mighty fine guitar riffs, cruisy bass lines and killer harmonies. And don’t forget the magic of that Hammond organ. This is a CD that you can hum along to and never tire of.
Got some energy to burn? Spin this CD on your stereo and shake till you just can’t shake no more.
