def: origami — 1. the art of folding paper into shapes of flowers, birds etc.

                       2. all-girl indie pop trio from Melbourne

Rhonda Simmonds, Natalie White and Lara Bortolo are Origami. And, if you haven’t heard their latest track Frisco Disco, you must have been hiding under a rock.

Frisco Disco is Origami’s first single from the recently released EP Cruising for a Bruising, which coincided with a few live shows on the east coast. If you haven’t heard, in the last couple of years they’ve also managed to tee up spots supporting high-profile bands like the Breeders and Sleater Kinney. Anyhow, Frisco Disco has been receiving considerable rotation on Triple J’s playlist, even scoring the track a mention in their ‘hitlist’.

Sure, there are a lot of Aussie bands out there at the moment with that girly Yeah Yeah Yeahs-influenced sound, and some might be quick to say that Origami is one of them. However, one listen to the pounding drums and the catchy guitar riffs on this extraordinary track and you quickly realise that Origami are a fantastic band in their own right.

If you haven’t check them out already, pick up a copy of the EP or single (or perhaps you could just turn on your radio). Either that or take up paper folding. It’s surprisingly meditative.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!
