Goldfrapp - Black Cherry
Mon 3rd May, 2004 in Music Reviews
Black Cherry is the newest creation of 4 minute bliss from English duo Alison Goldfrapp and collaborator Will Gregory, known as Goldfrapp. It is the fourth single released from the album Black Cherry that debuted in the UK in the Top 30.
Known also for her contributions to albums by such artists as Tricky and Massive Attack, Alison’s vocals transport you to a sphere exploding with sensual energy; disconcerting, but honest lyrics, which just scream heartache. Their trademark experimental mix of trip-hop has both the ability to send you spiralling down to a deeper and overwhelming state of mind, or perhaps contains a certain degree of enlightenment and, not intending to sound like a guru, even self-realisation.
A completely intense sound, not unlike tracks from previous album Felt Mountain, Black Cherry is more likely to appeal to those whose tastebuds savour the resonance of outfits such as Portishead, Orbital, Kosheen and Lamb. And being the most beautiful Goldfrapp track produced so far, it is no wonder they were nominated for Best British Dance Act and performed at the recently held Brit Awards.
A lyrically emotional trip, simmering over a chilled out fantasy world of orchestral tunings, Black Cherry is a killer track and will ignite the inner power of all who dare to listen.
