Ghosty (featuring WayneCoyne) - Clouds Solve It
Sun 14th May, 2006 in Music Reviews
It helps to have famous friends when you’re trying to get noticed. So when Ghosty hit the studio to record their debut album with Trent Bell they really got lucky. You see Mr Bell has also produced the Flaming Lips and he introduced Ghosty’s music to Wayne Coyne, the leader of that brilliant group of heart-on-sleeve psychedelic rockers. Wayne obviously liked what he heard and joined Ghosty to trade lines on this all too brief cut of jaunty call-and-response pop.
Basically this album track was re-recorded to add Coyne’s vocals on the occasional line. Oddly the usually wide eyed Coyne plays the slightly cynical half in this duet, gently casting mocking quips after Ghosty lead Andrew Conner’s lines.
Conner: /We said we’d never end up like Sylvia/
Coyne: /Whatever that means/
If you’re a fan of Coyne but found the new Flaming Lips album At War With the Mystics a little too grandiose and epic, then the innocent charms of Ghosty should certainly appease. Their album Grow Up or Sleep In due for release soon promises to be a delightful affair.
