The Sleepy Jackson - GodLead Your Soul

A lot has changed for the Sleepy Jackson since the release of 2003’s full-length CD Lovers, yet ostensibly much remains the same. While band members have come and gone, (including End Of Fashion’s Justin Burford and Rodney Aravena) frontman Luke Steel, the lynchpin on which The Sleepy Jackson is hinged, is still firmly holding sway, his psychedelic sounds reverberating.

With a new album Personality set to launch in July, the Sleepy’s release the first of their singles this month with ‘God Lead Your Soul’.

All those early comparisons to the Flaming Lips and Polyphonic Spree still ring true. ‘God Lead Your Soul’ is pop music taken to its lush extreme – all trumpet blasts, alluring melody and a swoony choral kick that lends itself to spread a smile across your face, ‘God Lead Your Soul’ is that infectious kind of pop music that is instantly hummable. Lyrically there’s little substance compared to the darkness of earlier Steel works’ – like those from the self titled EP – but who cares? Perfect psychedelic pop is rarely deep.
