Kisschasy - Face Withouta Name
Wed 28th Sep, 2005 in Music Reviews
After their successful debut album United Paper People and first single Do-do’s and Whoa-oh’s, it’s time Melbourne rockers Kisschasy released a second single to keep the fans happy. Face Without a Name has been chosen as the next single to help boost album sales and make those fence-sitting fans choose a side.
Face Without a Name needs to be listened to a few times in order to decide whether you like the song or are impartial to it. After listening to this single a few times, for some reason I’ve decided I like it. It opens with a guitar and drum beat that gets you bopping and this continues throughout the track. This isn’t necessarily a track to highlight Darren Cordeux’s vocals and there is no outstanding solo or vocal moment; it is purely carried by Kisschasy’s appealing pop/rock style. It won’t be as popular as Do-do’s and Woah-oh’s so if you didn’t like their first song, you won’t like this one.
The three following songs on this single, This Bed, Hearing Voices Tonight and Do-do’s and Whoa-oh’s, are live recordings from a gig in July this year at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney, and all of these tracks feature on Kisschasy’s current album United Paper People. These live recordings are actually quite good and do the band justice. Cordeux’s vocals aren’t anything to write home about but they’re pleasant and pass one of my live music tests – they’re in tune. Even though I’ve never seen them live, hearing these recordings makes me think I’ll go along to their gig next time they’re in town. This single is strictly for the fans and the ones who are leaning towards being fans.
