Counting Crows - Augustand Everything After –Live at Town Hall
Wed 12th Oct, 2011 in Music Reviews
This is Counting Crows live, recorded at Town Hall in New York after a quick decision to play their debut album in its entirety. This is the soundtrack to a film made of the band’s performance and more, culminating in a nostalgic and sold out concert experience.
Vocalist Adam Duritz still complements that distinctive Counting Crows sound, especially on songs such as Omaha where the enthused crowd sings along and the most well-known Mr. Jones, a track that has stood the test of time, proving itself a wonderful lasting sentimental favourite synonymous with the band and their legacy. However, his voice does waver and seems changed, but picks up well with the song Perfect Blue Buildings. “We’re putting out two records this fall” he says, amidst some lengthy talk with the audience, commenting on the band’s progress, trials and tribulations spanning their career.
The recording takes the listener on a journey, with certain elements of reminiscent memories for those fans familiar with these twelve songs. Rain King is where the record gains momentum, and the NY crowd responds to it well. The whole band comes together to contribute on a grand collaboration of uplifting melody all culminating in a charming song with the crowd responding with cries of excitation.
