Gold Fields - Gold Fields

Ballarat band Gold Fields have gained a following in the UK, and are currently touring with a string of festivals and shows here in OZ, here is the four-track EP from this five-piece.
The first track Moves blends electronic grooves with lyrics describing the calamity of a weekend’s exploits. “In the ambulance I couldn’t feel my face… at the hospital I couldn’t stay awake”. This is followed by some serene and ambient sounds and the beat kicks back in. Lyrics are reiterated and form a tagline that the entire song balances on, with such lyrics as “Someone said, what happened on the weekend?”
Holy No is slow and meandering, and here Gold Fields have produced something different and peculiar, despite the nostalgic lyrics “We were all kids… walking back from your place to mine… crawling back from my place to yours, down on all fours, walking back from your place to mine”. The Woods emphasises the lyrics “I wish we knew, I wish we knew” with vocalist Mark Fuller quietly emoting this and more as melodic tones ring out and the tempo falls and rises with brief lulls interspersed.
TreeHouse winds down the EP with a dancey track, essentially utilizing a feel-good beat amogst electronic delights. Gold Fields have produced an admirable body of work, with particular emphasis relayed to this last track, best listened to with the volume turned up and dancing shoes on, swaying to its mellow embrace.
