Rival Sons - Pressure &Time
Tue 14th Jun, 2011 in Music Reviews
Rival Sons are a rock and roll band from Los Angeles playing retro rock and roll from the early 70s. With their latest release, Pressure and Time, you have a sampler that contains 10 songs penned by the band. Their influences range from Humble Pie (think Steve Marriott), Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and the like and they pull it off with self-confidence.
Dave Cobb, better known for producing Shooter Jennings, Waylon Jennings and Jamey Johnson – all country artists – brings a brash, clear sound to the driving All Over The Road. Pressure And Time, the title track and single off the record, will have you reaching for your Zep comparisons. Jay Buchanan has rock and roll pipes and Scott Holiday plays a guitar that echoes this time period in rock and roll.
This may not be the most original record out there but it shows that this band may have some potential once they find their own feet. In time, they might even take the place of The Black Crowes, or maybe even sound more like them. Worth a listen, if this is your alley and you want to shake it up a bit.
