Sparkadia - The GreatImpression
Wed 30th Mar, 2011 in Music Reviews
Following the Things Behind The Sun EP and 2008 album Postcards, three quarters of Sparkadia decided to pull out to pursue other ventures, with only frontman Alex Burnett continuing on under the band’s name with guest artists contributing to the live performances.
The fruit of his labour is The Great Impression, an album of soft, yet powerful melodies, catchy choruses and an extensive collection of uplifting power ballads. Essentially every sound were recorded, performed and written by Burnett, which is impressive to say the least. Burnett’s vocals are impeccable as always with the singles Talking Like I’m Falling Down Stairs and China already creating a buzz and gradually recreating the hype that met Sparkadia’s previous album.
If you haven’t already heard Talking Like I’m Falling Down Stairs, then you have been living under some sort of rock for the last few months. But for those musical hermits out there, the traditional Sparkadia guitar distortion is used throughout the track, providing a quick and sharp rhythm, only to be contrasted by the smooth synthesised tones and Burnett long, velvet-like vocals.
Sparkadia deserve to be the next biggest band in Australia. Whether it be Alex Burnett’s, pure and smooth vocal ability or his amazing ability to play with human emotions within three minutes of music or just the way he captivates the audience with great sing-a-long choruses and musical hooks, there is definitely some x-factor there and I can only hope, some recognition is thrown Sparkadia’s way.
