Purple Sneakers DJs - WeMix You Dance Vol. 2
Fri 31st Dec, 2010 in Music Reviews
Undoubtedly the biggest and best indie DJs in the country, The Purple Sneakers DJs are establishing their dominance across the nation with their distinguishable brand of house parties and the highly popular sets at major festivals across the country. After the glorious success of their first compilation mash-up We Mix You Dance that was released earlier in the year, the Sydney boys would be crazy not to continue the series of local and international indie goodness.
We Mix You Dance Vol. 2, funnily enough, is the title of the sequel to their previous release, and in all fairness, trumps its predecessor with some of the hottest tracks of the year all mashed together to create quite the impressive mix. The compilation consists of two discs, named “Can Dance” and surprisingly enough “Can’t Dance” with the latter of the two discs containing tracks that are less likely to be dancefloor favourites and are enjoyed better by simply listening and appreciating.
“Can Dance” is the true centrepiece of We Mix You Dance Vol. 2 with tracks from LCD Soundsystem, Two Door Cinema Club, The Drums and Vampire Weekend as well as some fantastic local artists including Tame Impala, Little Red, The Temper Trap and Cloud Control. But what is most noticeable about this mix is the how well the variety of genres have been put together. Obviously, some tracks are mixed better than others, but as a whole, the disc has no really obvious seams or stops until the very end of the disc, which is precisely what is required for this type of compilation.
There are only a few downsides to the tracklist they have chosen, with a few novelty tracks, including Magic Fountain and We No Speak Americano, sneaking their way inside the mix, which the majority of people by now have either forgotten about or hate because of the amount of times they have been played. But altogether, these slight annoyances don’t impact too much on the overall prowess of the compilation.
Think of We Mix You Dance Vol. 2 as “The Annual” for indie music fans. It is highly recommended for those who need to whack on a CD for a party and not worry about who will like the music on it. There truly is something for everyone and The Purple Sneakers DJs should be congratulated once again for proving themselves worthy of the popularity and attention they’ve attained.
