The Holidays - PostParadise
Thu 2nd Sep, 2010 in Music Reviews
Pack up the suitcase and some extra piña coladas because its time for The Holidays. Their highly anticipated debut LP, Post Paradise has certainly some potential to be the greatest tropical party soundtrack of the year. They decide to swap the bass drums with kettle drums and have been reborn as the Caribbean kings of Australia.
The Sydney-based foursome have reinvented themselves since the earlier EPs – The Holidays and When The Ship Goes Down – which has drawn them away from the simple indie-rock sounds to more of a mature musicians attitude toward their products, choosing less of the catchy pop lyrics and more of the rhythm and multi-layered aspects of music.
Formed in 2007, The Holidays have produced a huge fan base along the east coast of Australia playing along side such names as The Temper Trap, Bluejuice, Little Red & Jamie T. The public have been crying out for a full release from The Holidays for some time now and have been acknowledged internationally from British based publication NME, with tracks being remixed by acts such as Grum, Aeroplane, The Swiss and Jonathon Boulet.
Highlight tracks off the album would have to include their early singles Golden Sky and Moonlight Hours. The tracks still offer the summer festival vibe that The Holidays have been accustom to deliver, with upbeat percussion in extreme levels, and beats that will surely send the crowds into frenzy in the heat of summer. Moonlight Hours, being the title track of the album has already hit the number one spot on triple j’s playlist and has created lots of hype surrounding The Holidays fan base who will be expecting quite amazing performances at some of the larger festivals next year.
Other memorable tracks include Indian Summer Anniversary, which is perfect for a few cocktails on the beach, and A Million Eyes, a perfect closer to the album with such finesse and style that you cant help but feel satisfied.
Post Paradise truly highlights The Holidays skills as talented musicians and a brilliant debut album to kick off their already illustrious career.
