Brisbane’s Last Dinosaurs debut EP Back From The Dead gives a bit more substance to the genre indie pop. The sixteen minutes of this EP could reignited your interest in Australia’s pop scene.
Honolulu, the band’s breakthrough song, has all the makings of a great pop song – it’s laidback but exciting; features catchy guitars, soaring vocals and has a singalong quality to it. The EP’s title comes from it’s second single, the equally catchy As Far As You’re Concerned.
Saturn keeps the upbeat pop sound up, but the lyrics turn a darker, as lead man Sean Caskey concedes ‘it takes me thirty-two years to do what you do in one’. Alps and a reprise of As Far As You’re Concerned close out a very strong and promising release.
Their slightly echoed guitars sound a bit like the start of Sweet Disposition a bit too often, but there’s more of an honest quality to these songs- as well as sounding more homely and less stadium-sized.
They might be called Last Dinosaurs, but this certainly won’t be the last you hear from them.
