AC/DC - Iron Man 2
Mon 17th May, 2010 in Music Reviews
The Black Ice album brought the band a legion of new fans and excited die hards with the first of new material in 8 years. The album was mammoth, reaching number 1 in Australia, US and the UK , as well going 5x Platinum in Australia, 2x Platinum in the US and Platinum in the UK.
With a gargantuan album, it only made sense to follow the success with an equally mammoth worldwide tour, eclipsing all previous concerts held down under. The stage show was larger than life, the set was tight and Angus and co showed age hadn’t wearied them. For all those fortunate enough to have seen the show, it will long be remembered!
Iron Man 2 is a collection of hits and lesser-known pieces from AC/DC’s discography, commencing with Shoot to Thrill from Back in Black . Other songs from Back in Black, the second highest selling album of all time (49 million sales) are Back in black and Have a Drink on Me.
Cold Hearted Man, a track featuring Bon Scott peers it’s head interspersed among one of the many action scenes our protagonist Tony Starks (Robert Downey Jnr) encounters. Mickey Rourke is well cast in his role as Whiplash, and he and Starks’ Iron Man feature predominantly in the CD’s booklet among scenes of AC/DC during various phases of their career.
_Guns for Hire- embraces the thrill of the film whilst the classics TNT, If You Want Blood and Highway to Hell seals the intensity of the soundtrack. There are many twists and turns, lots of explosives, cheer girls and a leather clad vixen.
Rock n Roll Damnation, Hell Ain’t a Bad Place To Be and Let there be Rock magnify the good ol’ Bon Scott years with latter tracks
Thunderstruck and War Machine thrown in as well.
Despite starring a bevy of Hollywood heavies such as Don Cheadle, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow, the movie has received luke warm reviews. The same however cannot be said for the soundtrack.
Iron Man 2 is the perfect addition to any AC/DC collection. Nicely presented, a very good mix of songs and an ode to the the greatest Rock n Roll band ever.
