Yidcore - Wind Beneath MyWings

If punk re-inventions of cover songs tickles your fancy than Yidcore’s DVD single release of Wind Beneath My Wings will be right down your alley.

The Wind Beneath My Wings film clip features an animated battle supposedly between good and evil, as the four Yidcore boys morph into alleged superheros trying to save their hero Barbra Streisand from being destroyed by the reprehensible Bette Midler. Portrayed are versions of Midler that most would not have ever considered, which include Midler playing King Kong, Godzilla, and the Ghostbuster’s Marshmallow Man.

The clip has its moments of being somewhat humerous, but overall it is quite a bore. Who really cares if Streisand or Midler come out a victor? The Yidcore boys also think it’s humerous to sex-up Streisand and end up with both Midler and Streisand getting it on in bed. I think it’s supposed to be funny…?

The rest of the dvd shows some interviews of the boys getting on the wrong side of the media in Israel with Israelis finding some of their jewish humour distasteful with the Yidcore boys trying to justify their actions, but not being too convincing. The DVD also features Channel V ripe clip, The Punk Rock Chanukah Song and a sneak peak into the recording process which is one of the highlights with its humour and inanity.

With Wind Beneath My Wings, Yidcore are undoubtedly trying to bring acts of stupidity onto the music scene which does hold some appeal to not make things so serious, but this should only be delivered in small doses because otherwise it just comes off as annoying. Wind Beneath My Wings is the first taste of what’s to come from Yidcore’s double album Eighth Day Slice/Fiddlin On Ya Roof which holds a bit more promise with contributions from the likes of Ben Lee, Renee Geyer, John Safran, and Killing Heidi’s Ella Hooper, who hopefully set the Yidcore guys down a more appealing path.
