The Mars Volta -Televators

www.fasterlouder.com.au

Of all the songs from ‘De-loused at the Comatorium’ the new single Televators by The Mars Volta is basically speaking, the most structured song on the album. You’d expect this song to progress into an all out cacophony but the instruments are consistent and you can actually decipher what Cedric Bixler is whining about. Televators tells the last dying moment of Julio Venegas, the dear friend of The Mars Volta who committed suicide. As Cedric belts out his lyrics about graves and curses, it has the effect of taking you into a depressed and pessimistic state for the full 6 minutes. Nevertheless, the song is eccentrically beautiful and is filled with much emotions and ideas to say that this song is more than just music, this is art.

Additionally, an extra for fans of The Mars Volta, the single also contains four live tracks, making the length of the single stretch to just over 45 minutes. Roulette Dares (the haunt of) was definitely the stand out live track especially when listened to at full blast, it has the effect of swaying your head from side to side. Having seen The Mars Volta live, I can say that these live tracks are almost good as watching Cedric dance and squirm in those tight jeans of his on stage.
