Melbourne’s Digger and the Pussycats created a stir last year when they released Young, Tight & Alright, an album full of loud rock chunk ‘n fuzz which left other rock bands perturbed that a two-piece could blow the roof off.
The band recently released Fashion Victim as a sneak preview to this years album Watch Yr Back, perhaps a warning to bands and fans alike that Digger will be ambushing your airwaves soon. Digger and the Pussycats play uncomplicated fuzz and punk rock; stripped back but with complex melodies and goddamn volume. Both songs on the single release are parodies to quintessential coolism. Firstly Fashion Victim has a dig at Melbourne’s Chapel Street coolsies with lyrics like
I got a Prada, a Louis, a Christian Dior
Designer belt buckles and a uniform
Gotta Prada, a Louis, Tsubi jeans too
I’m all dressed up and I’m looking for you
I’m the best dressed bitch in town and I’m looking for you
Won’t someone come and shoot meeeeeeeeeee!
The song finishes with a screeching guitar crescendo and slips into the next song Just Another Hole; a stab at smokers with lyrics like
Smoking through your tracky [as in tracheotomy]
Keep your eyes peeled for Melbourne’s dynamic duo touring soon and the album is scheduled for release sometime in March.
