Belles Will Ring -Broader Than Broadway
Mon 8th Dec, 2008 in Music Reviews
Looking ahead to their sophomore record, Sydney’s hazy pop rockers Belles Will Ring deliver a mini-album filled wall-to wall with atmospheric moments. Its matter-of-fact, lush drums and bass give us a taste of what’s in store next year. Picking up where their hypnotic Mood Patterns left off in 2007, Belles Will Ring oscillate between the sound of the escapist pop of the – œ60s West Coast scene and a little folk and paisley.
The band has chosen the path of least resistance, going for instinct on the recording. The organic, free-flowing nature of the songs is evident throughout. Broader Than Broadway possesses an effortless weaving of engaging narrative and addictive, shakin’ musical structures to have you clicking fingers or whistling along. Such is the power of their style.
Admittedly there are a few – œuppers’ spread throughout, but if you’re chasing the perfect little comedown record for the summer, then look no further.
Broader Than Broadway is out now on Architecture through Remote Control.
