Sunray In The Rave Cave is the sophomore EP from The E.L.F., otherwise known as Gerling frontman Darren Cross. The collection of five songs opens with the lyrics, “What the hell was that?” which aptly sets the scene for the weird and wonderful samples and live bits that follow.

Although described in the press release as an “indie sensation,” the music is best described by Cross himself as an “anthemic super party sing-along EP for dancefloors and party people throughout the universe.” Needless to say, those hipster kids who worship at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory will love this baby. It also might attract older Gerling fans, as common threads between the two are peppered throughout the songs. But in essence, it resembles other electro-pop favourites like The Presets, Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts.

There is also a retro kitsch factor evident in some of the tracks, with Rave Cave sounding in part like a song from an old Wild FM compilation. Similarly, You Can’t Fire Me goes back to the early – œ90s dance sound of Technotronic and similar ilk. In all, Sunray In The Rave Cave looks set to be the feel-good party soundtrack to this summer.

Sunray In The Rave Cave is out now on Oak Records.
