Snow Patrol - Chocolate
Thu 6th Jan, 2005 in Music Reviews
Snow Patrol’s latest single, Chocolate, is a short, inoffensive slice of pop-rock that is easy on the ears. Taken from their latest album Final Straw, it is the follow-up to first single Run and does well to further illustrate the band’s ability to create beautiful and stirring music.
The song showcases the awesome vocal talents of Gary Lightbody (he who has perfected the art of sounding earnest and soulful), and leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy, despite the fact that the song includes lyrics such as
“What have I done?
It’s too late for that.
What have I become?
Truth is nothing yet.”
The song begins in an unassuming fashion, before a drumbeat sends the music wrapping around the vocals like a well-fitted glove. Simplicity is the key in regards to the guitar that comes to the fore in the short musical breaks. It lends an upbeat air to the song, while the smooth transition from verse to chorus adds to the palatability and consistency of the track.
It’s worth giving this single a listen, where the appeal lies in its straightforwardness and ability to lift the spirits. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to smile at strangers and pick flowers.
