Missy Higgins - Ten Days
Mon 13th Dec, 2004 in Music Reviews
For those of you who haven’t read my review of Missy Higgins’ debut album, The Sound of White, I’ll quickly précis what I love about her so much. Firstly she sings with a proudly Australian accent, her music is arranged beautifully and she has real talent.
Ten Days is the second single from her debut album telling the story of two lovers who have been separated, for one reason or another, and the feelings she has for that person. She describes being with that person as being at home. It’s a feeling that I’m sure most of us can identify with, being with a person, be they lover or friend who makes us feel safe and secure.
Also included on this EP are three songs from a live performance at the Hordern Pavilion. I was lucky enough to catch the last half of her performance recently at Homebake and what struck me the most, as it does on these live tracks, is her ability to faithfully reproduce her songs live. It shows that the songs she writes are written to be played live. The three live tracks on this single are Greed For Your Love, Scar and The Special Two.
The version of Scar on the single mixes things up a bit, raising the tempo of the song, but at the same time remaining faithful to her original recording and in my opinion, it probably a better version of Scar.
The live songs on this single are the real highlight for me. One of my New Years resolutions is to see her play at a small intimate venue like The Vanguard in Sydney or Tilley’s here in Canberra.
