Streetlight Manifesto -Everything Goes Numb
Sat 21st Feb, 2004 in Music Reviews
One day down at the local record store I was looking for some Sublime CD’s, when I came across Streetlight Manifesto – Everything Goes Numb.
I had previously heard alot about these guys on a punk/ska forum i talk on, but I never actually had managed to listen to them. Not finding any Sublime CD’s, I though I’d take the risk. Let me tell you kids, Streetlight Manifesto ROCK!
Streetlight…are a combination of few ex-members of Catch 22 along with a few new members. Pure Ska with no pop-punk element to it at all. It has the same lyrical style and fast vocal patterns of ‘Keasby Nights’ era Catch 22. The music is good, with a strong emphasis on the Horns section (something ska has been lacking these days, in my opinion) and catchy choruses and melodies which you’ll be humming all day.
But Streetlight Manifesto’s strongest asset is their excellent lyrics. The songs tackle subjects ranging from a bank robbery to a friend who is suicidal while written in unconventional ways. It’s hard to choose stand out tracks because the entire CD is consistent, but ‘A Better Place, A Better Time’ and ‘A Moment Of Silence’ are songs I just can’t get out of my head. If you are a ska fan, get this CD, as I reckon it’s a benchmark for all ska bands and I cannot wait for this band to release more!
