Do you ever find yourself in the need of a some heavy, sweaty, skanky rock and roll? I often do and I have been searching for some new filth since my favourite bands disappeared. Gazoonga Attack finished up ages ago and broke my heart, then The Distillers packed it in and Brody Dalle is yet to do anything with her new band. Then Damnzal went on hiatus just as they were preparing to take their sexually charged, heavy rock overseas.
I desperately needed suitable replacements. Slunt almost had me believing they were the one, but they turned out to be cleaner than I thought, or wanted. Juliette Lewis grabbed my attention for a little while, but her and The Licks were only good on their first EP and not nearly dangerous enough anyway. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are still going strong and are still a lot of fun, and they are a little rough, but not rough enough. Texas Terri Bomb had almost been keeping me content, but I needed something local. Something Orstralian. And then I heard Crackwhore.
Crackwhore are from Melbourne and their name says it all, but songs like On Your Knees, Cheap and Easy, and Suck Me will make it clearer if you are a bit slow. They even cover the Divinyls classic Boys In Town, and vocalist Stacy sounds like she has been places and done things that would even scare Chrissie Amphlett. This is the first album from Crackwhore, but they have appeared on numerous punk-themed compilations so you may have heard them before. After listening to the album I felt like I had spent all night having sex in the bathroom of the grottiest club in the city. It felt good. Really good.
