The black tie’s popularity is about to meet its match, because Pink Tie is a new compilation and fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which draws together an exceptional group of local artists. In essence, the collection is like a cake with pretty pink icing. It contains 13 gorgeous pop-folk tracks that combine to make a sweetly cohesive mix.

The group of artists is reminiscent of past line-ups for Legs 11 (a Sydney concert event which has raised money for the same cause) and this excellent set of talent includes Josh Pyke, Youth Group, Angus and Julia Stone and Missy Higgins.

Bob Evans offers some affectionate pop bliss with Friend, while Sarah Blasko offers the heartfelt tome, [explain]. Art Of Fighting borrows from a Crowded House songbook with Free You, and an exclusive, unreleased track by The Sparrows titled- Down Kings Cross Way also features. The latter song is like Ben Lee performing a sing-along Britpop anthem.

The one fault I find with this compilation is that while a picture of the sponsor, Nescafe, is included in the album notes, some facts that seem more vital to the release are omitted. This information includes:
– That breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Australia with 13,000 new female cases and 95 new male cases expected this year.
– That the National Breast Cancer Foundation will be receiving over ten dollars from every disc sold, and that this body awards funds for research across the continuum of breast cancer – from genetics to treatment; to support and palliative care.

In sum, this is a good album that supports a worthy cause. The purchase and listening experience will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, thanks to it being a corker of a collection and the fact you are doing your own little bit in support.
