You know a collective is really on top of its game when it can gather together some tracks they have been working on over the last couple of years, shuffle them together, pull in a few collaborators and voila, you have a superb album. Of course anyone who has heard their previous work know that UNKLE are a classy act, and their latest album release End Titles…Stories For Film does not disappoint.
Apparently a lot of the music that the team of James Lavelle and Pablo Clements create ends up shelved and not heard by their passionate fans. This album then is an attempt to get these tracks out there for the likes of all and sundry. Each of the tracks is inspired by a cinematic experience, whether it be a Spike Jonze skate movie, such as the tracks Heaven and Blade In The Back, or Alex Grazioli documentaries about famous directors. This is a collection crossing a few genres, but one thing that stands out front and centre is the beauty UNKLE channels into their tracks. End Titles…Stories For Film contains more than just songs – this is a musical collage with magical moments accentuated by seamless layering of instrumental, vocal and ethereal production.
The collaborators on the tracks are some of the best and brightest in the business as well. Not just people in the spotlight, but accomplished musicians and composers in their own right like Josh Homme, Chris Goss and Gavin Clark.
It is a beautiful album, replete with sweeping soundscapes, heroic orchestrations and a general feel of majesty throughout. Be uplifted and overwhelmed.
