With Indestructible, Disturbed are primed to dominate the rock charts worldwide for a good while. Rock-and-roll music has always loved and fed on controversy, and the ever-polemical Chicago quartet has released its darkest, heaviest record to date. Indestructible is a self-produced affair – “After three records and doing this for ten years, if we don’t know what we’re doing by now, we shouldn’t be doing it,” stated frontman David Draiman in a recent interview – and is inspired by the vocalist’s string of “bad luck” over the past couple years. In turn, Draiman’s bandmates – guitarist Dan Donegan, bassist John Moyer, and drummer Mike Wengren – embraced the volatile frontman’s darker prose, crafting instrumentation that effectively corresponds with his dour, abrasive lyrics.

The past is now destroyed and the fans are awaiting the arrival of the newer Disturbed sound and vibe. Their lead single Into the Fire has arisen and caught the attention exciting everyone’s eardrums. The fans are wanting more! The artist responsible for the artwork done for their 2005 Ten Thousand Fists has returned to do the artwork yet again for their new LP. Todd McFarlane was glad to become Disturbed’s new designer for their album covers and has created some amazing designs for the band. With that said, Indestructible is one powerful album to pick up.

Of the album’s twelve tracks, some, like the title track, claw your eyes out; sirens echoing, gunshots going, and bombs dropping down give you a taste of what this album offers. Some other “darker” tunes have to be The Night and Haunted. Both these tracks go hand-in-hand, giving that creepy vibe with all the awesome guitar blasting and vocal thrashing, leaving chills running down your spine. One other outstanding track is Dehumanized, because it just pops your ear drums in half. Excellent guitar riffs and drum beats going off in unison, giving such hard rock force it keeps your body in motion from start to finish. All in all, Disturbed has come a long way and have given their fans both old and new exactly what they deserve: hard rock that leaves a ringing in your ears.

Overall this is another solid release from Disturbed. In this era of rampant illegal downloading and decreased CD sales, it’s hard to say if Indestructible will go platinum. It’s easy to assume, though, that it’ll be one of the best selling metal/hard rock CDs of 2008, and even easier yet to say Disturbed will continue to polarise metal fans.
