Dan Le Sac vs ScroobiusPip - Angles

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip sounds like a formidable battle to watch. While battling may not be quite the correct terminology, the English duo certainly pack a punch lyrically and musically. The lads from Essex released the anthemic Thou Shalt Always Kill last year and captured the ear of all and sundry. This follow-up album, while not being as instantly catchy, is still a worthwhile listen and purchase for those who love their hip hop with a bit more than bitches and bling. That’s not to say that this is a preachy album. While there are some serious moments and some messages for the listeners in such tracks as Look For The Woman and Letter from God To Man, the album does not descend into any sanctimonious blatherings that are intolerable to the listener.

Scroobius Pip is described as a performance poet and the higher quality rhymes and stories told in every song pay tribute to that fact. Dan Le Sac’s electro beats are also quite clever in parts but do stray occasionally into slightly laboured territory, but this may be in part as they are trying to provide the proper back drop for Scroobius’ rhymes. It is a genuine good listen from start to finish. There are no fillers and no tracks which just do not make the grade. If you like a bit of spoken word over beats, check it out. You will be impressed.
