Kill Teen Angst EP Review
Sat 14th Jun, 2008 in Music Reviews
The last 18 months have been big for Perth indie rockers Kill Teen Angst; Formerly known as Ten Speed Racer, the band won the 2007 WAMi Rock Song of the Year for The World Or Nothing, supported the likes of British India, Shooting at Unarmed Men, Witch Hats, and Kisschassy*, were signed up by Perth label Good Cop Bad Cop Records and now have released their self-titled, debut EP which they plan to tour later this month.
So what is the fuss about these guys? For starters, they can write songs and damn good ones at that. They have managed to combine the best of all their influences and come up with something that sounds far more advanced.
Dayvid Clark’s performance on the drums is excellent and he is backed up by good performances by Greg Sanders on Bass and Brenton Bell on Guitar.
Singer, Scott Tomlinson has an aggressive vocal style which works well on most tracks, however this approach doesn’t work on Ode to Drew, where he struggles to stay consistent which is a disappointment since the song has so much potential.
Tomlinson can write some good lyrics and this is illustrated during The World or Nothing with the catchy line “Sweetness, fortune, things we never had, pack up, Really, thanks for everything.” Death to Rio is intense number that does not let up and Mediocre Melbourne is an interesting name for a song.
Overall a good release from Kill Teen Angst, expect to hear a lot more of these guys in the years to come.
