The John Steel Singers are a six piece Brisbane based band, well known on JJJ for their tracks Strawberry Wine and Submarines or Kayaks. Supported by Cloud Control, it was a night of sensory delight. Cloud Control are a very talented band who know how to put on a good show. Punters debated the merits of each band and it seems no decision could be made!
Triple J’s Home and Hosed bought us the show, and they did goodwill rounds of the audience, collecting spare change for the artists. People too happily obliged a buck or two. Seriously, what else costs you a gold coin donation and keeps you warm and tingly the whole night through?
It was unfortunate that the John Steel Singers played last because their set didn’t start till 11.30 and people started leaving, as their beds beckoned. Those people certainly missed out on a fantastic set.
Cloud Control was energetic and fun and really got the crowd pumping. People were on the floor, doing hillbilly dances and smiles abounded. The new and improved lighting at Transit added to the hypnotizing atmosphere, punters sat entranced, watching the bands. Cloud Control and John Steel Singers had such an impact, the crowd was relatively silent, unless they were singing along, of course.
John Steel Singers have received rave reviews, and are definitely deserving of it. Mardi Lumsden from ABC commented “Strawberry Wine, Rating: 5/5, Whoo-hoo-hoo. This band makes me smile.” Indeed if you want to smile, get yourself along to one of their gigs.
