Angelas Dish - War OnTime
Tue 4th Mar, 2008 in Music Reviews
The time is now.
On March 8 time will stop for Angelas Dish with their long awaited album hitting stores for fans to purchase. “We are finally starting to win the battle.”
War On Time is the polished compilation of tracks the central coast boys present after hours of fine tuning to ensure it is the best piece of art they could offer. And a whole complete unit it is.
Opening track Let You Go is Michael Harris’ most passionate vocal performance yet and each track is laid down in an order that they hope takes you on the journey of a modern relationship battling the ongoing component of time and change.
Drawing from their influences and albums they admire, War On Time varies in pace; even striping right back to an acoustic sound on tracks such as Piano Song and the short Memory. The latter also rather blunt and straight to the point lyrically while being sung in a calm tone: “You say get out of my way or I’ll take your face off”. The track then displays the angst and fades to an echo, suiting its title.
Piano Song as a single piece is symbolic of the entire album – coloured and layered. It begins acoustic, then the combination of the deep bass and drum beats start to kick in – signalling the track is building to a full band. Again the vocals are passionate and meaningful.
Although standout singles were not the priority, Soft November was inevitably the one. It’s undeniably catchy with a driving beat that climaxes at a well formed chorus that lingers in your mind long after. It was the right choice.
Closing track Paint A Picture rounds off the album and concludes the story on a positive note. “I love you forever.”
Overall, well worth the wait. Although the bands previous EP releases were successful in their own right, the album looks forward and is a definite progression.
Resist the temptation to press shuffle and listen to the album in its entirety…at least once. And if you really want to experience it they way it was intended, turn the dial up a notch…or two.
