The Daybridges - LosingControl
Tue 12th Oct, 2004 in Music Reviews
The second EP from The Daybridges, Losing Control, is a five-track excursion into the world of crazy blues-rock and oh-so-cool lyrics. Hailing from Brisbane, The Daybridges are Peter Cullen, Brian L’Huillier, Aaron Luciow, Mick Luciow and Silas Palmer.
After receiving an enthusiastic reception on their recent tour with The Datsuns and Fur Patrol, this EP further showcases the talents of a band that is undeniably on the rise and inevitably heading for Great Things.
First track off the release is Losing Control, a foray into rock most decadent, its rawness and energy making it a brilliant start to the EP. This song, along with first single She’s A Liar, a dirty rock ‘n’ roll tune which has received copious airplay on Triple J, illustrate the high quality blues-laden tunes that this band is so good at communicating both on record and to a live audience.
The best track on the EP is Janis, with its ever-apparent bluesy rock and old-school organ. Top this off with Peter’s powerful voice as he wails the song’s namesake and a killer guitar solo and you’ve got a rocking tune worthy of kings.
The wonderfully named Vixen of Vinyl and Fake It follow, both exuding an energy and swagger that is glorious to behold.
My only complaint is that there aren’t more tracks on this release! If this enticing peek is indicative of what we can expect from one of the most exciting acts to come out of Brisbane, what comes next is bound to be just as amazing!
