Mother Mars - Take theRide (EP)

For their debut release, Take the Ride, Mother Mars presents itself as a salver of stoner, grunge, heavy metal and blues infused outfit.

No strangers to the riff raff of the industry, these fellas came, saw, and fled the scene from the same same genre that was dominating the stale repetitiveness of the local music scene. Opening for acts such as Wolfmother, Cog and Bob Sledge led Mother Mars to reinvent themselves and polish their performance on many levels; instrumentally, song writing, vocally and a change in line-up. The result is a potent infused blues roots metal sound with a trace of hip hop influence.

Songs such as Vice has a raw, thick guitar riff with a sharp whipping solo. In reminiscing, it’s something you would expect to hear on an early Metallica album. Beer Astronaut has a classic dirty distortion effect, Paul Attard is an impressive guitarist and it “pops” on this number. For me, “Waiting” was the eye opener; all members showcase their aptitude and deliver to superior standards. Matt’s vocals come effortlessly and bellowed tastefully (even though I find his vocal ability superlative, I still believe it is embryonic.). Bassist Tim Pritchard’s note assembly is highly astute and with the brisk tempo changes he triumphantly commands the rhythm section. Drums have their share of kick and tastefully not overdoing it but enough to let you know he is the chief on his throne and you are his student.

The EP artwork is tasteful and summons you to want to know more about these urban spacemen. Take the Ride, was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Mother Mars and Damon Nott at Purple Carpet Studios.
