Still a cracker of an album the second time around, What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have has now been re-released with a bonus DVD of the videos Blasko has made to promote her music over the course of two albums, and one EP.
Why? Well, quite simply, it seems the record company was quietly confident that she would score some ARIA nominations – and possibly even a big win in the coveted – œBest Female’ category – which would push this album in the lead up to the big Christmas sales period.
It certainly deserves it – a heartfelt exploration of music and sound, What the Sea Wants... was leaps and bounds ahead of her debut, The Overture and the Underscore. Recorded in Neil Finn’s studio in New Zealand, it is an album that deserves to do significantly better than it has already, with Blasko an artist that the critics seem to take seriously but who the public at large has not yet discovered fully. Perhaps, hopefully and belatedly, this re-release will change all that.
