Plug-in City - Plug-inCity
Tue 23rd Oct, 2007 in Music Reviews
Plug-In City’s debut self-titled EP was released by the indie label, Modular. It was recorded in Melbourne at the Calculators studio in early 2007.
Just when I thought the repetitive beat of the opening track Blank Photo was a little to methodical for my liking, it was cut with a funky beat and an urgent sounding guitar. The bass is hypnotic, laid over a slamming beat and more electro pop then punk. Broke on a Wheel, also has Plug-In City’s characteristic trance-like rhythm and guitars that drop in and out over the old-school synthesiser sequences. Lyrical hooks pop up in the tracks, and while ordinarily it would cause me to become disinterested, it somehow managed to dissolve my usual music attention-deficit disorder. The five-track EP is post-disco meets post-punk, and definitely something worth checking out.
